For a true wilderness experience, the Dark Canyon Trail is an excellent choice. This trail is a long and challenging descent into a beautiful and wild canyon. The solitude and the pristine, untouched scenery are the main rewards. It’s a fantastic but strenuous hike for experienced backpackers looking to explore a rugged and beautiful corner of the West Elk Mountains.
